At the request of IAmAlphaM viewers, here’s an article with pictures of celebrities and the hairstyles they’ve been known to wear; whom I’ve categorized based on face shapes. Hoping to find celebrities wearing hairstyles I recommended for the various face shapes in my article Hair Styles and Face Shapes – the task was more difficult than expected. As you’ll see, not everyone is complying with the rules of matching face shape to complementary hairstyles, but that’s okay because it brings a few points up that I’d like to address.
The first point is face shape alone is not the only determining factor when choosing appropriate hairstyles, even though it is crucial to the mission. Naturally, hair texture and type are also determining factors, but so are facial features. Seasoned stylists are experts in putting all aspects of a client’s face together to find his perfect cuts, and I trust celebrities are taken care of by some of the best. So, if there is a contradiction to the face shape/hairstyle guidelines, I assume it’s because other factors, like nose shape and size, have been factored into the equation. Or, they, too, occasionally run into a bad stylist or haircut like the rest of us.
Another point I’d like to make is face shape tends to change as we get older or gain weight. It’s difficult to see the original face structure when added weight pads the cheekbones or jawline, and when the face begins to droop from aging. My suggestion is to base your hairstyle on your current status, which will result in the best outcome.
My final point is an obvious one, but one I’d like to stress. There are numerous hairstyles for everyone, especially when individual facial features are taken into account, so, there’s no need to settle for just one style, no matter how well it works for you. Changing hairstyles to keep up with facial changes and fashion trends keeps you fresh, current and progressive… three important aspects of image. So, don’t be afraid to experiment. It’s the only way you’ll know which styles look good and bring out your best.
The following celebrity photos are categorized by face shape. Regardless of whether you like the hairstyle they’re wearing or not, matching your face shape to theirs can be advantageous in selecting your own styles. The web has countless photos of these men and the many hairstyles they’ve worn over the years. Seeing their styles is just one more way to narrow your search and get ideas. Enjoy!
Square: Very angular, with a prominent square chin, and broad forehead and jawline.
Round: Face has few angles, full cheeks, and is equal in width and length.
Triangle: A triangle or “pear shape” face features the jawline as the widest point that angles to a narrower forehead.
Oval: Forehead is slightly wider than the chin, and the length is approximately one and half times the width.
Oblong: Much like the oval shape, it’s longer and narrower. The chin tends to be somewhat pointy.
Diamond: Face is widest at the cheekbones, with narrower forehead and jawline that are approximately the same width.
Heart: Forehead and cheekbones are wider than the jawline. Chin is on the pointy side.
I hope this article’s been helpful in giving insight to your own complementary hairstyles. If nothing else, I hope it’s been entertaining!
