The other day, Alpha was checking out a store, and the cashier asked him, “Debit or credit?” Alpha explained that debt is essentially cash. Aaron Marino of alpha m. also talks about how credit cards are borrowing for an item you want. Consumer debt is not super fun, but we talk about being responsible at Alpha M.
Financial responsibility is another piece of that responsibility puzzle. This debt is caused by not having money now but wanting something now. This need for immediacy gets people in trouble. Debt is dangerous and should be avoided if at all possible. Wait for things, and only buy things that you can afford. If you want more stuff, get a way to afford it but not with credit.
Alpha has been there in college when he got a credit card with a $300 limit. He charged up $300 quickly and couldn’t pay the minimum balance. He didn’t understand credit ratings. His mother intervened, and Alpha paid it off but it took a super long time.
Alpha got thinking about this debt topic even further because of some posts in the Alpha M. Facebook Group. He wants to make sure guys don’t think they need to buy things to present an image or package. Don’t fall into the trap of falling into debt. Paying interest is ridiculous too.
Getting out of debt is a vicious cycle. If you can’t afford it and it’s outside of your budget, do without. Don’t charge to get something that can wait or you shouldn’t buy in the first place because you can’t afford it.
