How to PROPERLY Dress Up a Sweater | Top 5 Sweater Wearing Dos and DON’Ts

January 7, 2024
Today, I want to review my favorite ways to dress up sweaters. I will give you some examples that you can steal to look fantastic and dos and don’ts for sweater-wearing so you always look your best. Sweaters are a perfect style option, but some can make you look like Mr Rogers, while others make you look like a sexy ninja.

Styles of sweaters

Cardigan, pullovers (mock, crew, v-necks, quarter zip, turtleneck), and full zips.

Fabrics

Cotton, cable knit, and Merino wool (best for dressing up). Never wear a fuzzy or balled sweater. Shave it off. Also, use a lint roller for crap stuck to your sweater.

Fit

Oversized is a trend, but you should have it fit you properly; if not, it will look too casual.

Collar

V-neck is most practical for dressing up. Sure, you can dress up a crew, but v-necks are a better (and sexier) choice.

Underneath

Opt for a rigid collar. Standard polo collars look messy and are too casual.

‘Dress-up your sweater’ outfits

  • Lightweight turtleneck with a suit auto elevates your aesthetic
  • Cable knit sweater + loafers
  • Cardigan with loafers in a monochromatic look
  • A v-neck sweater makes a dressy casual date option
