To Tie a Tie
Aaron Marino of alpha m. explains and demonstrates how to tie a Nicky Knot. The Nicky Knot is a type of knot that is used less often than other knots, begins inside-out around the neck, and uses a longer length of the tie. The knot is great for skinny ties and not as symmetrical as a Full Windsor. It’s a stylish option.
To tie a Nicky Knot:
- Start with wide-end of the tie one- foot longer than narrow end and cross wide-end under narrow. The wide-end should cover the shirt.
- Tie’s wide-end up through loop.
- Tie’s wide- end down and underneath the necktie narrow end.
- Pass tie’s wide-end across the front of necktie narrow end.
- Tie’s wide-end up through loop.
- Hold front of knot loosely with index finger and pass tie’s wide-end down through knot in front.
- Remove finger and tighten knot while pulling down tie’s narrow end and using other hand to slide knot upward. Do not remove dimple and keep centered.
