You are a nice guy. So is Alpha. But being nice and being a kind person doesn’t’ mean allowing people to take advantage of you. On the flip side, standing up for yourself doesn’t mean being a jerk and putting someone down in the process.
Aaron Marino of alpha m. has always sought acceptance and wanted to be the guy that people liked. In the real world, his eager to please was taken advantage of and perceived as weakness. He noticed it happening with certain people in certain situations. He was paralyzed with having a confrontation and wouldn’t stand up for himself. After soul searching and therapy, he realized it was from his broken-home childhood, specifically his emotionally abusive 2nd step-father.
Alpha would never stand up for himself as he didn’t want to rock-the-boat. Instead he internalized it and ‘took it’. Now that he knew the reason, he had to change his reactions. He had to be prepared and when the time came, he stood up for himself. It was so liberating and ‘so huge’. To do this yourself, be ready and be aware of your situation so you are not caught off-guard.
